A friend and I were playing Soviet Strike on the PS1 and he was getting destroyed in minutes every time he started the game. Offering me the controller I completed the first level and he was staggered.
My reply was that I had been playing the 'Strike' games since the original was released for the Sega Megadrive - so I understood the games controls and systems.
Of course gaming has improved graphically in the last 30 years but this remains a tough, brilliant game which I've been immersing myself in testing it prior to sale.
This is the complete original game and comes with it original case and instruction booklet - as shown.

Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf for the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) is a classic helicopter shoot-'em-up game released in 1992 by Electronic Arts. Set in a fictional Middle Eastern conflict, the game draws inspiration from the Gulf War, offering a unique blend of strategic gameplay and intense action. Players control an Apache helicopter, tasked with completing a variety of missions such as rescuing hostages, destroying enemy installations, and neutralizing key enemy targets across expansive desert environments.
What made Desert Strike stand out was its combination of arcade action with tactical elements. Unlike many straightforward shoot-'em-ups, Desert Strike emphasized resource management—players had to conserve fuel, ammo, and armor while navigating mission objectives. The open-world structure allowed for a non-linear approach to missions, where players could choose the order in which they tackled objectives. This added depth and strategy to the gameplay, as players had to balance offense with careful exploration and re-supply.
The game's top-down, isometric perspective provided a wide view of the battlefield, enhancing its sense of scale. Its challenging gameplay, combined with smooth controls and varied mission design, helped Desert Strike become one of the standout titles of the Sega Mega Drive, spawning multiple sequels in the Strike series and earning a lasting reputation as one of the most iconic military-themed games of the 16-bit era.
