I remember Namco's Pole Position arcade game and remember this being released in the arcades and on the Sega Megadrive. Thirty Four years ago this was state-of-the-art and playing it now is surreal.

This is only the cartridge as the box and instruction books have been misplaced over the decades.

A rare piece of retro gaming, Pre-loved and Fully Tested

Super Monaco GP is a popular Formula One racing game released for the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) in 1990. Developed and published by Sega, it is an arcade-style racing game that became one of the most successful racing titles on the platform. The game is known for its fast-paced, intense racing action, featuring a mix of real-world racing locations and a unique career mode.

The game offers two main modes: Arcade Mode and World Championship Mode. In Arcade Mode, players race through the iconic Monaco Grand Prix track, aiming to achieve the best lap times while competing against AI drivers. This mode replicates the experience of the original arcade version of the game.

However, World Championship Mode is where the game shines, allowing players to compete in a full Formula One season across various tracks. Players can switch between teams during the season, challenging rivals and trying to win the championship. The career progression aspect, where players can be promoted to better teams or fall behind if they don't perform well, added depth and replayability.

Graphically, Super Monaco GP was impressive for its time, with smooth sprite scaling and fast frame rates that captured the speed and excitement of F1 racing. The game's sound effects, including the roar of engines and crowd noise, further enhanced the immersive racing experience. While the controls were responsive, mastering the tight turns and overtaking mechanics required skill, which gave the game a challenging but rewarding difficulty curve.

Super Monaco GP was praised for its blend of arcade action and strategic career gameplay. It became a standout title for racing fans on the Mega Drive, offering both a thrilling single-race experience and a deeper, long-term career mode.
