Looking back, it feels almost absurd to think one of the first games I played was Pong. I played Virtua Tennis in the arcades (badly) and have played Virtua Tennis and others of the ilk on Sega and Nintendo machines since. Back in 1993, this was considered state-of the art and it has a real nostalgia to it.

This is only the cartridge as the box and instruction books have been misplaced over the decades.

A rare piece of retro gaming, Pre-loved and Fully Tested

Grand Slam: The Tennis Tournament is a tennis game released for the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) in 1993, developed by Zeppelin Games. It aimed to deliver a realistic tennis experience with a straightforward gameplay approach, catering to both casual players and tennis fans. The game features singles and doubles matches, along with a tournament mode, where players can compete in a series of tennis championships to become the ultimate Grand Slam champion.

The game offers several playable modes, including Exhibition Matches, Doubles, and the Tournament mode, where players compete in a knockout-style championship. The gameplay is fast-paced and relatively simple, with players having control over serves, volleys, and smashes. Though the controls are easy to grasp, mastering the timing and placement of shots is key to winning matches, making the game challenging enough to keep players engaged.

Visually, Grand Slam: The Tennis Tournament has basic but functional graphics, with smooth animations that effectively simulate a tennis court environment. However, compared to other sports games of the time, the graphics and sound were considered modest. Despite its simplicity, the game was enjoyable for its responsive controls and arcade-style tennis action, making it a solid choice for fans of the sport looking for a straightforward tennis experience on the Sega Mega Drive.
